The Criminalistics Laboratory is managed by a Crime Lab Director and staffed with specially trained Criminalists, Crime Lab Technicians, and Photographic Services personnel. The Laboratory is accredited by the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors – Laboratory Accreditation Board. The forensic services and programs provided by the Sheriff’s Crime Laboratory to the law enforcement and criminal justice communities include: drug analysis and identification; firearms and ammunition identification; forensic DNA analysis; gunshot residue analysis; latent print processing and recovery; countywide breath alcohol analysis program; arson case evidence analysis; photographic and digital imaging services; and expert witness testimony. Staff utilize a wide array of specialized forensic science methods, equipment, instruments, and state-of-the-art networked evidence analysis systems to identify and interpret evidence from criminal case investigations for law enforcement investigators, attorneys and the Courts.
Mission Statement
The Sheriff’s Office Criminalistics Laboratory is charged with overall responsibility for the analysis, evaluation, identification and interpretation of physical evidence by the application of the natural sciences to criminal investigations and legal matters. The goal of the Criminalistics Laboratory is to provide superior quality forensic science services to the Criminal Justice community in this Region in a safe, professional, effective, efficient and error-free manner.
