Alameda County Animal Control operates two shelters. The western unincorporated area is located in San Leandro and is served by the Fairmont Animal Shelter. The East County Animal Shelter in Dublin serves the eastern unincorporated area of Alameda County, and also contracts with the cities of Dublin, Livermore and Pleasanton for shelter services.
Animal Control provides field services for the residents of unincorporated Alameda County and, under contract, with the City of Dublin.
The Friends of the Fairmont Animal Shelter volunteers (FoFAS) assist the Fairmont Animal Shelter. The Tri-Valley Animal Rescue volunteers (T-VAR) assist the East County Animal Shelter. Both volunteer groups have proven to be invaluable assets to the respective shelters by assisting with the fostering and adoption of thousands of animals every year.
MISSION STATEMENT
Our mission is to maintain two animal shelters, enforce all codes pertaining to animal violations, license dogs, issue permits, investigate reports of vicious animals, and respond to calls from the public for service, and coordinate the Deputy Sheriff Reserve Unit’s activities.
