Transportation Unit
INTRODUCTION
The Transportation Unit is a component of Detention and Corrections Administration (Jail Support). The Transportation Sergeant supervises daily transportation activities. All transportation deputies possess a Class B driver license. Newly assigned deputies complete a one-week certified driving course through the A.C. Transit Authority.
MISSION STATEMENT
To transport prisoners in a safe and secure manner and deliver them in a timely manner for mandated court appearances.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Transportation Office is located in the Santa Rita Jail Service Building. Daily duties include moving prisoners between court and custodial facilities,
and warrant and removal order pickup. The unit also delivers lawfully committed prisoners to designated state facilities. Transportation moves prisoners in compliance with removal orders as directed by the court.
The unit currently operates a fleet of 14 vans, 9 buses,
3 cars and 2 shuttles. An average of 330 inmates are transported to various court locations throughout the County of Alameda each day.
