The Regional Training Center provides oversight for all training occurring within the Sheriff’s Office. This includes approving curriculum for departmentally sponsored training, insuring compliance with federal, state, local and departmental training mandates.

The Regional Training Center provides In-service Training in three different program areas: Continued Professional Training, a P.O.S.T. certified in-service training program; Standards in Training for Corrections (STC), certified by the Board of Corrections, provides In-service Training to members assigned to the Detentions and Corrections Division; Ad-Hoc classes are held at the Regional Training Center, and cover a wide range of Law Enforcement topics. These courses are open to other police agencies as well as Sheriff’s Office personnel.

Regular Basic Course
The Regional Training Center operates a Regular Basic Course (academy), which is the entry-level training requirement for all California peace officers. The Regional Training Center is 1 of 40 basic training academies certified by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.).

Regional Skills Training Center
In addition to operating a basic police academy, the training center was also designated by P.O.S.T. as a Regional Skills Training Centers (RSTCs). Each site is equipped with Law Enforcement Driving Simulators (LEDS), Force Options Simulators (FOSI), skid training cars and platforms, training mannequins, computers, LCD projectors and other related training equipment.

Firearms Training Facility
The Firearms Training Facility is located nearby, and has five separate ranges which includes a "live fire" house all supported by a 10,000 square foot classroom building. The Force Option Simulator program is operated at the Firearms Training Facility.
