COMMUNITY SERVICE OFFICER EVOC SAFETY UPDATE

DESCRIPTION:  This course is specifically designed to instruct CSO'S and non-sworn personnel. Heavy emphasis is placed on skid recovery, loss of control recovery, control during a blowout, and operating on less than ideal surfaces. The students will demonstrate a working knowledge of driver skills by successfully driving such courses as the Skid Pan, the Hazard Avoidance Simulator, Threshold/ABS Braking Simulator, and other various skill and precision oriented activities. The student will also learn basic Code3 driving as many departments allow their CSO's to perform in like manner.

INSTRUCTORS:  All instructors are POST certified instructors.

PREREQUISITE:  Must be in excellent physical condition and free of any prior injuries that may be aggravated by intensive vehicle weight transfer, braking, turning, or skidding.

PRESENTATION HOURS:  This is an 8-hour course. The courses begin at 0800 and end's at 1700.

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT:  Students are required to have a valid drivers license or permit. Students should wear suitable clothing, such as long pants (no shorts or skirts), a comfortable shirt and sturdy shoes. Athletic shoes are acceptable. No sandals, highs heels, or dress shoes allowed. We provide the vehicles, students are allowed to bring their departmental vehicles to be used on the course.

RESERVATIONS & LODGING:  This course is limited to 20 students and reservations will be made on a first come, first serve basis. If you need additional information please call Vickie Swenson at (925) 551-6970.  Reservations must be made by the student's agency training officer.


LOCATION: The course will be conducted at the Alameda County Sheriff's Office, Regional Training Center, 6289 Madigan Road, Dublin, CA. [map].

LODGING: Reservations for lodging must be arranged by the student or his/her agency [hotel list].
