Motor vehicle related courses


Course name: The Alameda County Sheriff's Office (ACSO) Regional Training Center (RTC), in affiliation with the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST), and Standards and Training for Corrections (STC) present motor vehicle related courses including motorcycle courses, tactical courses and instructor training.

Registration Requirements: To register for classes please utilize our web-based registration system. The RTC website can be accessed on the internet at http://www.sheriffacademy.com. For students who do not have internet access, registration can be done by telephone or fax. Contact the RTC at (925) 551-6970 to register. Canceling or rescheduling courses can also be done on the web site or by telephone.

Length of training: Courses vary from 4-hour courses to 80-hour training courses.

Special Requests:  Agencies or organizations wishing to send large numbers of employees can contact the EVOC Coordinator for special arrangements if they cannot find a class date or time to fit their needs.  Contact Deputy Brian Frazer at (925) 551-6987.

Target groups: The courses are designed to meet the needs of law enforcement agencies for training in-service peace officers. There are also driver-training courses offered for public safety, military and civilians built to enhance safe driving techniques.

Prerequisites necessary for peace officers and civilians: Peace officers must be a full-time / reserve peace officer or correctional officer. All students including civilians must sign a waiver when attending any manipulative skills training courses conducted at the RTC.

Fitness levels: Must be in good physical condition and free of any prior injuries that maybe aggravated by motor-vehicle training.

Physical dangers associated with training: The ACSO's motor vehicle related training is a physical activity. Every precaution has been taken by instructors to prevent injury to students. Notwithstanding that, injuries can and do occur. Students attending motor vehicle related training must adhere to established safety policies of the RTC.

Equipment above what the RTC provides: Students are required to wear suitable clothing during motor-vehicle training. If specialized equipment is required it will be listed in the course announcement.

Training costs: Costs are available on the website or by calling the RTC.

Attendance requirements: All students are expected to complete courses in their entirety. In the case of an unforeseen absence such as an emergency, the student shall not be considered complete in the course if he/she misses more than 10% of course hours.
