PATROL RIFLE INSTRUCTOR COURSE

DESCRIPTION: This 40-hour course consists of instruction and practical exercises focused on the specific needs of the rifle instructor, the use and application of the rifle as it pertains to law enforcement, and the skills to instruct others in its use and maintenance. The instructor/students will demonstrate the following: knowledge of policy and procedure guidelines for the Patrol Rifle Officer, knowledge of tactical deployment of the rifle, ballistics, proper disassembly, assembly and cleaning of the weapon, proper zeroing techniques of the weapon, and proficiency with the weapon by successfully completing position and movement courses.

INSTRUCTOR:  Deputy Reed has served as a Firearms Instructor for over twenty years. He is a certified NRA handgun, shotgun, rifle, submachine gun, and long-range rifle instructor. In addition to serving as the Basic Academy Range Coordinator, Deputy Reed also has responsibilities of tactical firearms training, reserve police programs, firearms instructor training, simulator training, and other Regional Training Center range programs. Deputy Reed has received extensive firearms training from some of the nations most recognized instructors and has also competed at national shooting competitions.

PREREQUISITES:  Students must be full-time peace officers, or active duty military personnel. Students are expected to be proficient with their department's long gun, as this is not a basic rifle class. Personnel must be a certified Firearms Instructor to attend this class. Personnel must be selected by their respective agency to attend this course. All students who are not members of the Alameda County Sheriffs Office must sign a liability waiver.

PRESENTATION HOURS:  This is a 40-hour course that starts at 0800 on the first day of the course. There will be one night session during the course that will start at 1300.

CERTIFICATION:  POST Plan IV.

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT:  All participants must have the following weapons and equipment, one agency approved patrol rifle (AR-15/M-16 recommended) with sling, 1000 rounds factory ammunition for the rifle, three 20/30 round magazines for rifle, weapon mounted / hand held flashlight with extra batteries, service handgun with duty belt, three magazines for handgun, 100 rounds factory ammunition for handgun, cleaning equipment for both weapons, 20 rounds of dummy ammunition for rifle, body armor, eye and ear protection, Gas Mask, "BDU" type uniform, and hat. Optional equipment: Hydration system, Knee/elbow pads, shooting pad, sunscreen, and water.

PAYMENT: Payment for course(s) are due on the first day of class. All payments must be made by cash or check payable to the "Alameda County Sheriff's Office." Sorry, we are unable to accept payments by credit card.

LOCATION: The course will be conducted at the Alameda County Sheriff's Office, Regional Training Center, 6289 Madigan Road, Dublin, CA. [map].

LODGING: Reservations for lodging must be arranged by the student or his/her agency [hotel list].
