DEATH SCENE INVESTIGATION

DESCRIPTION: The Alameda County Sheriff's Office, Regional Training Center (RTC), in cooperation with the Orange County Sheriff's Office is hosting the Death Scene Investigation Course. The course is twenty four hours in length.
This course is designed for those Deputy Sheriff's, who in the scope of their duties are required to perform the duties of a Coroner's Investigator. Provides investigators assigned to the Coroners, Sheriff Coroner, and Medical Examiner Offices a thorough understanding and working knowledge of coroners law. Students will have a basic understanding of the human anatomy. Also covered are medical records, primary function of the death investigator, information needs in the corner's report, estimating time of death, and conducting a proper death scene investigation. Designed for 830.1 PC deputy coroners not required to attend the 80 hour Basic Coroners course.

ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS:Â All students are expected to complete courses in their entirety. This includes assigned hours and assignments/projects that may be given to the students by the instructors. In the case of an unforeseen absence such as an emergency, the student shall not be considered completing the course if he/she misses more than 10% of the course hours. The exception is the Regular Basic Course or Academy which is 5% of the course hours. Course Instructors may assign students additional projects and or work to satisfy minimum attendance hours with the approval of the RTC Captain.
