OFFICER SAFETY FIELD TACTICS FOR UNIFORM ASSIGNMENTS

Fee: $300.00

DESCRIPTION:  This 40 hour course has been developed to provide the officer assigned to uniform duties, with, classroom and tactical "hands on" training necessary to safely encounter suspects under various field conditions. Students will receive instruction and demonstrate enforcement procedures, incorporating use of force options and safety applications. Training will include the following: high risk vehicle stops; building searches; arrest tactics; first responder procedures; psychological conditioning, gun retention/take away; judgment shooting; use of force liability issues, and case law.

INSTRUCTORS:  Deputy Steve Galles has been an Alameda County Deputy Sheriff for over 20 years. Deputy Galles is a former member of the Alameda County Sheriff's Office Special Response Unit and a Counter-Sniper team member for 10 years. Deputy Galles is a certified Firearms Instructor, Patrol Rifle Instructor, a Rappel Master, and Taser Instructor. Deputy Galles is currently the Force Options Simulator Coordinator, and the primary instructor for the Officer Safety Field Tactics for Uniform Assignments course. Deputy Galles considers himself a professional student and has attended numerous courses facilitated by nationally recognized instructors.

PREREQUISITES:  Must be a full-time/reserve peace officer. All students who are not members of the Alameda County Sheriffs Office must sign a liability waiver.

PRESENTATION HOURS:  40 hours starting 0800 on the first day. There will be one night session during the class that will begin at 1300.

COURSE FEE: $300.00 Payable in a single check to the Alameda County Sheriff's Office.  Payment is due on the first day of class.

CERTIFICATION:  POST Plan II 1010-22415 RTC-T-09.00

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT:  Students are required to wear utility or BDU type uniforms with boots, and suitable workout clothing during the second day of the course. No blue jeans/denim pants or red hats. Students must also provide their own duty belt, holster, handgun with 3 magazines, shotgun and/or long gun (patrol weapons), body armor, ear and eye protection, 500 rounds of handgun ammunition and 150 round of shotgun, and/or long gun ammunition, and cleaning equipment for both weapons.

RESERVATIONS:  This course is limited to 30 students and reservations will be made on a first come, first serve basis. LOCATION: The course will be conducted at the Alameda County Sheriff's Office, Regional Training Center, 6289 Madigan Road, Dublin, CA. [map].

LODGING: Reservations for lodging must be arranged by the student or his/her agency [hotel list].
