SUBMACHINE GUN INSTRUCTOR COURSE

DESCRIPTION:Â This 40-hour course consists of instruction and practical exercises focused on the specific needs of the submachine gun instructor, the use and application of the submachine gun as it pertains to law enforcement, and the skills to instruct others in its
uses and maintenance. The instructor/students will demonstrate the following: knowledge of policy and procedure guidelines for the employment of the submachine gun, knowledge of tactical employment of the submachine gun, proper disassembly, assembly and cleaning of the weapon, proper zeroing techniques of the weapon, and proficiency with the weapon by successfully completing position and movement courses.
INSTRUCTORS:Â Deputy Reed has served as a Firearms Instructor for over twelve years. He is a certified NRA handgun, shotgun, rifle, submachine gun, and long-range rifle instructor. In addition to serving as the Basic Academy Range Coordinator he is also responsible for tactical firearms training, reserve police programs, firearms instructor training, FATS/PRISM simulator training, and other Regional Training Center range programs. Deputy Reed is a member of and serves as the principal firearms instructor for the department's Special Response Unit. Deputy Reed has been certified as an MP-5 instructor by H&K. Deputy Reed has received extensive firearms training from some of the nations most recognized instructors and has competed at national shooting competitions. Deputy Reed currently sits as a member of various P.O.S.T. advisory committees.
PREREQUISITES:Â This course has both physical and mental components that will be challenging. Students must be full-time peace officers or active duty military personnel. Students must have completed a POST Certified Basic Firearms instructor course. Students must have successfully completed a Certified Operators course or have prior experience with the submachine gun. All students who are not members of the Alameda County Sheriff's Office must sign a liability waiver.
PRESENTATION HOURS:Â This is a 40-hour course that starts at 0800 each day.

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT: Â All participants must have the following weapons and equipment: one submachine gun with light mount, a minimum of three magazines for the submachine gun, sling, 1500 rounds of factory ammunition, service handgun and holster with 100 rounds of factory ammunition for the handgun, three handgun magazines, wrap-around eye protection, and ear protection. It is recommended that students bring body armor, flashlight, weapons light, gloves, elbow and kneepads, and 'BDU" type uniform.
