TACTICAL RIFLE/CARBINE OPERATOR COURSE

DESCRIPTION:  This 32-hour course is designed to train individuals in the tactical use of the patrol rifle or carbine. The course will enhance and broaden the skills of individuals already assigned by their agency as rifle operators. This is not a basic patrol rifle course. The course will provide intermediate to advanced shooting techniques and skills that are specifically designed around the needs of your patrol and SWAT team members. The topics covered are mental conditioning, non-traditional shooting positions, supported and unsupported shooting positions, action vs. reaction drills, small unit tactics, live fire tactical movement, low light shooting, equipment selection and much more.

INSTRUCTORS:  Deputy Jeff Reed has served as a Firearms Instructor for over twenty years. He is a certified NRA handgun, shotgun, rifle, submachine gun, and long-range rifle instructor. In addition to serving as the Basic Academy Range Coordinator, Deputy Reed also has responsibilities for tactical firearms training, and other Regional Training Center range programs. Deputy Reed has received extensive firearms training from some of the nations most recognized instructors and has also competed at national shooting competitions.

PREREQUISITES:  This course has both physical and mental components that will be highly challenging. Students must be full-time peace officers or active duty military personnel. Students must have completed a Basic Rifle Operator Course and know the basic traditional firing positions, weapons operation and maintenance of the tactical weapon, or currently assigned to their agency's tactical unit. All students who are not members of the Alameda County Sheriff's Office must sign a liability waiver.

PRESENTATION HOURS:  This is a 32-hour course that starts at 0800 on the first day. Students will be provided with a course schedule on the first day. There will be one night session during this course.

CERTIFICATION:  POST Plan II.

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT:  One approved patrol rifle (AR-15/M-16 recommended) with tactical sling, 1,200 rounds of factory ammunition for rifle, four 20/30 round magazines with pouches, rifle mounted light or hand held flashlight, service handgun with three magazines, 150 rounds ammunition for handgun, 100 rds frangible ammo for rifle, 50 rds frangible for handgun, cleaning equipment for weapons, personal web gear / duty belt, body armor/tactical vest, gas mask, wrap-around eye protection, ear protection, "BDU" type uniform and hat. A hydration system / water, knee and elbow pads and sunscreen are highly recommended.
