Since 1996, the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office has voluntarily participated in the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) Law Enforcement Accreditation program. A part of this process includes an opportunity for public feedback which was previously accomplished with in person interviews once every 3-4 years. In an effort to allow greater public access, public feedback can now be given via the CALEA Public Comment Portals, which can be accessed via this link for Law Enforcement Services and Dispatch: ACSO LE Public Comment Portal, or this link for ACSO Training Academy: ACSO TA Public Comment Portal. The Public Comment Portal is maintained by CALEA and directs the commenter to the CALEA website.
The purpose of the Public Comment Portal is to receive comments regarding our agency’s compliance with CALEA standards, engagement in the community, delivery of public safety services, and overall candidacy for accredited status. These comments can be in the form of commendations or suggestions for improvement. The overall intent of the accreditation process is to provide our agency with information to support continuous improvement, as well as to align our practices with law enforcement best practices nationwide.
It is important to know that CALEA is not an investigatory body and subsequently the public portal should not be used to submit information for such purposes. Additionally, there will be no response other than acknowledgement of submissions; however, the information will be considered in context to its relevancy to compliance with standards and the tenets of CALEA Accreditation.
CALEA standard titles are available to be viewed on the CALEA website: Law Enforcement Standards Titles, Training Academy Standards Titles, and Communications Standards Titles.
If you have questions about our agency, standards, or the process, please call the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office Accreditation Sergeant: (510) 208-9834.
